COIN BASED is back at PubKey NYC.
This time, we're digging into the Noah Doe lawsuit and how two parties are coming for the same dormant Bitcoin from opposite directions. Best part is, neither one has the keys.
Side one: an anonymous plaintiff and two Wyoming shells want a New York court to call 3.8 million dormant BTC, Satoshi's included, "lost property" under a statute written long before Bitcoin existed. They blasted OP_RETURN notices at 39,069 addresses, then pointed at the silence. The catch: the notices hit P2PKH, but most of the oldest coins sit in P2PK. The holders may never have been served.
Side two: quantum researchers and Jameson Lopp's BIP 361 would freeze those same legacy addresses before someone cracks them.
Different intent, same target, same outcome: coins controlled by parties who don't own them.
A win for either side moves zero sats, but turns every exchange into a chokepoint and every silent holder into a defendant.
So: can silence still be ownership?
