Round Rock Bitcoiners #52 - Last Meetup at the Baca
Lean · Decentralized · Built to Outlast Us
Stop by Round Rock Bitcoiners #52 - our final meetup at the Allen R. Baca Center and help us close one chapter and open the next: leaner, more decentralized, and built for the posterity ahead of us as we'll be creating a 3 of 5 multisig treasury at this meetup.
What’s changing, and why
The Baca has been our home for over 50 meetups. We’re not leaving because it’s a bad place, it’s actually a great one. We’re leaving (for the time being) because we want this group to outlast any single venue, any single person, and any single platform.
So, we’re going lean and decentralized, for our posterity ahead:
No more paid meetup platform. Our meetup.comsubscription has ended. From now on we announce on evento.soand satlantis.comand email every member directly. No platform gets to hold the group hostage again.
Rotating locations. This is our last time at the Baca. Next we head to Halal Bros, then we’ll keep rotating to different Satoshi Square bitcoin spots as opportunities come up; supporting the local circular economy every time we move.
Member-run, no required dues, no single point of failure. Anyone can host. We'll build a treasury that stays in a 3-of-5 multisig so no one person can move it alone and no one person owns it. If three signers won’t sign, it doesn’t happen. When in doubt, we'll do nothing.
Here is what signers to bring to the next meetup: - Hardware wallet, charged, firmware current - Seed generated privately at home (paper/metal) + PIN/passphrase memorized - Device fingerprint written down - USB-C or micro-USB cable for the device - Paper for descriptor backup (public keys only, no secrets) - Loaners (Ledger, Coldcard) on request (reach out to jsonbits ahead of time)
What stays the same
From 6:30 – 8:30 PM. We’ll share an educational topic over dinner, with an optional Bitcoin Happy Hour to follow. We’ll demo some tools and open the floor for a little peer-to-peer circular economy (a.k.a. Satoshi Square).
The purpose of this group hasn’t changed: Share the knowledge, tools, resources, and benefits of the Bitcoin network for advancing humankind. Grow adoption by local businesses through peer-to-peer networking with other bitcoiners. Whether you’re new to bitcoin or a hardened node runner, if you live in or around Round Rock, this group is for you. Come say goodbye to the Baca and help us build what comes next!
