Bitcoin Turns 18

Eighteen years ago today, a nine-page PDF landed on a cryptography mailing list and everyone with a plausible excuse has been denying they wrote it ever since.

Bitcoin is officially a legal adult. Old enough to vote, sign contracts, and open a bank account, which is funny, because it has spent its entire life making the last one optional.

It’s also Halloween, which this year needs no extra effort: Coldcard’s RNG in August, Ledger’s complimentary spy chip in October. The scariest costume at this meetup is a hardware wallet bought from a reseller.

So this time we’re doing lunch. Come celebrate, argue, and raise a glass to a document that has aged better than most of its critics.
